Guided: N/A Fish Type: Trout
State: VA Current Rating: Fair
County: Augusta Last Updated: Aug 15, 2010

Low levels. Long leaders and hoppers, crickets and ants. Jigging larger streamers under banks and through mid channels can get some larger fish to show and strike.
This stream is fishable year around, and Virginia regulations allow for it to be fished throughout the year. It is one of the nicer limestone streams in this region, usually 15 to 20 feet wide. It offers a great deal of flat water and quite a few small pools which can yield some very large browns.
A stretch of approximately 3.5 miles is open for public fishing and is governed by special regulations. This stretch is from the Augusta/Rockingham County line to a sign posted upstream at the confluence of Joseph's Spring. Fishing is limited to artificial flies with single hooks and the daily possession limit is one fish 20 inches or more in length. All fish under 20 inches must returned unharmed to the stream. Note that fishing outside the special regulations area requires written permission. Permits can be obtained from the department of Inland Fisheries or from the landowners. Fishing in permission-only areas without permits can result in the loss of all fishing privileges in Virginia.
